How to connect the circuit of the high-rise building s electrical distribution box

How to connect the circuit of the high-rise building s electrical distribution box

In a high-rise building, circuits are connected by distributing power from the main energy meter to floor-specific distribution boards, using properly rated breakers, RCDs, and sub-circuits according to load requirements.Main Steps for Circuit Connection1. Main Power Supply and Metering Electricity typically enters the building through a main energy meter, which can be single-phase or three-phase depending on the building load. For three-phase systems, the incoming phases (R, Y, B) are connected to a Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) acting as the main switch, with the neutral connected to a neutral bus bar . 2. Main Distribution Board (MDB) The MDB is usually installed on the ground floor for easy access. From the MDB, sub-circuits are drawn to each floor. Each floor may have its own sub-distribution board (SDB), which receives power through a main breaker sized according to the total load of that floor . 3. Sub-Distribution Boards and Branch Circuits From each SDB, branch circuits are connected to lighting, fans, sockets, HVAC, elevators, and other equipment. Each branch circuit should have a circuit breaker or fuse rated for its specific load to prevent overcurrent . 4. Residual Current Devices (RCDs) RCDs are installed to protect against leakage currents. The phase (line) and neutral from the MCCB or main breaker are connected to the RCD, and outgoing lines from the RCD feed the final circuits . 5. Load Balancing and SafetyDistribute loads evenly across phases to prevent overloading.Use separate main breakers for each floor to isolate faults without affecting the entire building .Ensure proper grounding and bonding of all metallic parts, including conduits and structural steel, connected to a common grounding electrode . 6. Wiring PracticesUse listed raceways or electrical nonmetallic tubing (ENT) for routing wires through floors .Maintain separation between power and emergency circuits as required by NEC 700.10.Label all circuits clearly for maintenance and troubleshooting. 7. Compliance and Inspection All connections must comply with local building codes, NEC, and IEC standards. Accurate load calculations and adherence to code ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability . By following these steps, each floor receives a reliable and safe electrical supply, with the ability to isolate faults and maintain continuous operation of critical systems such as lighting, elevators, and fire safety equipment.
