How to use the Hioki optical power meter

How to use the Hioki optical power meter

The Hioki 3664 optical power meter measures optical power from lasers or LEDs and can be operated by connecting the appropriate sensor, powering on the device, and selecting measurement modes.Initial Setup and SafetyBefore using the meter, inspect the instrument and accessories for any damage from shipping, including the optical sensor, connectors, and cables . Always operate the meter indoors at 0–40°C and avoid exposure to moisture, corrosive gases, or direct sunlight . Use only the specified AA alkaline batteries or the supplied AC adapter to prevent shortened service life or damage . Never connect or disconnect the optical sensor while the power is on, and avoid touching the detector window with bare hands to maintain measurement accuracy .Powering OnStandard Power On: Hold the POWER key for approximately 2 seconds to turn on the meter with the auto-power-save function enabled .Disable Auto-Power-Save: Hold the POWER key for about 5 seconds to turn on the meter and disable auto-power-save .The meter will automatically turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity if running on battery to conserve power .Connecting the Optical SensorSelect the appropriate optical sensor for your measurement (e.g., Model 9742 or 9743) .Connect the sensor securely to the meter's input terminal. Ensure the connection is clean and free of dust.Avoid physical shocks or dropping the sensor, as this can affect sensitivity and accuracy .Performing MeasurementsAbsolute Measurement: Measures the optical power directly in watts (W) or decibels-milliwatts (dBm) .Relative Measurement: Allows comparison to a reference value. Activate relative mode to display changes relative to a stored baseline .Maximum/Minimum Hold: Use these functions to capture peak or lowest readings during a measurement session .Averaging: Smooths fluctuations in readings for more stable results .Display and OutputThe main display shows the current measurement, while the sub-display can indicate relative measurement or other modes .Data can be output via the USB interface or the output cord for recording or monitoring with a PC or DMM . Use a USB cable of 2 meters or shorter to minimize noise interference .Maintenance and HandlingKeep the detector window clean and avoid touching it with fingers .Turn off the meter after use and replace batteries promptly when the low-battery indicator appears .Transport the meter using the original carrying case and avoid physical shocks to maintain calibration and sensor performance . By following these steps, you can safely and effectively use the Hioki 3664 optical power meter for accurate optical power measurements of lasers and LEDs.
